Purpose and vision

Purpose of the Minerals Council South Africa (Minerals Council)

The Minerals Council is a mining industry employers' organisation that supports and promotes the South African mining industry. The Minerals Council serves its members and promotes their interests by providing strategic support and advice.

A key role of the organisation is to make possible and encourage interaction among mining employers in order to examine matters of mutual concern. This helps establish industry standpoints on important issues.

The Minerals Council also acts as a principal advocate for mining in South Africa to government, communicating major policies agreed upon by its members. In addition, the organisation represents some sectors in collective bargaining with organised labour.

Vision of the Minerals Council

The Minerals Council's vision is to reposition South African mining as South Africa's foremost industrial sector. The Minerals Council seeks to create, in partnership with key stakeholders, a policy, legislative and operating environment that makes possible the doubling of real investment in mining by 2030.

Achieving this vision will be a game changer for the country and its ability to achieve the government's National Development Plan (NDP) objectives to improve economic growth, development and transformation.
